[NEW YORK CITY, NY] - Friday, May 15, 2026
OPEIU Local 153 is proud to endorse Assemblymember Claire Valdez for U.S. House of Representatives in New York’s 7th Congressional District. A dual citizen of the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo Nation and the United States, Claire is the true champion of labor, working people, and pro-labor policies that we need in Congress! As a union organizer, we know Claire’s commitment to unions for all, working people across New York City, and her dedication to fighting for dignity and justice for all workers. From her own experiences as a union member and from working alongside and representing working people across our city, she knows unions are how we build power.
Local 153 knows that in Congress, Claire will deliver for working people. We are excited to endorse someone who understands the core importance of unions for all, housing for all, and Medicare for all. She is running on a progressive platform that includes abolishing ICE, protecting immigrants, international solidarity, no war and genocide, and transit and a livable planet for all. Claire has already fought for these priorities in Albany and it is time that we send her to Washington D.C.!
As a long time leader in NYC-DSA, Claire has stood with 153 members across the multiple contracts and campaigns that we are fighting for and we are proud to stand with her today in endorsing her for U.S. Congress. As 153 members continue to fight powerful interests through organizing their workplaces, we know we can count on Claire to be there.
