OPEIU Local 153 is proud to endorse Furhan Ahmad for New York State Assembly District 66!
[NEW YORK CITY, NY] - Friday, May 15, 2026
OPEIU Local 153 is proud to endorse Furhan Ahmad for New York State Assembly District 66. A lifelong New Yorker and son of a taxi driver, he is a dedicated public servant of 23 years with a distinguished career as a union firefighter with FDNY. As a firefighter and first responder, he saw firsthand the compounding crises that New Yorkers faced daily. Furhan is running to fix these structural issues and policy failures by passing pro-labor policies that support working people.
Among his priorities, he is passionate about strengthening the mental health crisis workforce and creating more jobs in the mental health sector. He will fight to make our city safer by having more mental health professionals to care for New Yorkers and believes that we must fight for pay parity for EMS workers. He also supports workers in re-entry services who provide critical services for folks leaving incarceration and believes we must invest in this work. He stands with workers who are seeking representation with 153, who while fighting for dignity for those in the criminal justice legal system, are fighting for their own dignity in the workplace by forming a union. For the workers who center care and dignity in their everyday work, which is many of our members, he believes that they all deserve a union and strong contract!
Furhan understands that working people across our city are working harder for less and that union jobs are more important now than ever. He knows that union workers run this city and that they deserve more! The champion that we need in Assembly, OPEIU Local 153 is proud to officially endorse Furhan Ahmad for New York State Assembly District 66.
