Osborne Association and Fortune Society Workers Launch Union Push on May Day with OPEIU Local 153
[NEW YORK CITY, NY] - Friday, May 1, 2026 - On International Workers’ Day, workers at justice-focused nonprofits, Osborne Association and Fortune Society, have publicly launched their union push with OPEIU Local 153.
Both Osborne Association and Fortune Society workers serve New Yorkers impacted by the criminal legal system. Osborne and Fortune workers care deeply about supporting formerly incarcerated folks, with many workers also having experienced incarceration firsthand. Workers at both organizations provide many services such as benefits access, employment services, education, mental health services, research and policy, food and nutrition, alternatives to incarceration, and creative arts.
Osborne and Fortune Workers are demanding income equality, protection against harassment, and job security. You can follow their campaigns on Instagram, @osborneworkersunited and @fortuneworkersunited.
Additionally, on May Day, 20 New York City Council Members sent a letter to management in support of Osborne Workers United and Fortune Workers United. Read the City Council Member’s letter, here.
