LI Edition: OPEIU Local 153 endorses Congresswoman Laura Gillen!

OPEIU Local 153, alongside OPEIU International, is proud to endorse Congresswoman Laura Gillen. Local 153 represents workers in Long Island at higher education institutions namely Hofstra University, Adelphi University, and LIU Post. These workers, who are in clerical and administrative roles, deserve a champion who will fight for them with regards to the affordability crisis as well as someone who will stand alongside them in their contract campaigns. We know Congresswoman Gillen will.

We are proud to have workers on Long Island who keep fundamental Long Island institutions running. Their fights include the fight against AI and how this emerging technology will fundamentally affect their workplace. These workers deserve dignity and respect on the job and we need people in Congress who understand how important their work is. Representative Gillen does.

Moreover, we appreciate the Congresswoman’s commitment to our immigrant communities. She has stood with the Haitian community and Haitian TPS holders in demanding that Congress extend TPS. The NYC labor movement has made clear our stance: we also stand with the Haitian community in these hard times and demand a reinstatement of temporary protected status.
