OPEIU Local 153 Proudly Endorses Aber Kawas for NYS Senate!
[NEW YORK CITY, NY] - Friday, October 23, 2026
OPEIU Local 153 is proud to endorse Aber Kawas for New York State Senate. A born and raised New Yorker and proven champion for working class people often left out of the conversation, she brings a fighting spirit to the State Senate and the labor movement.
We are proud to endorse Aber because of her organizing background and proven commitment to immigrant workers, union members, and all working families. Specifically, she has been an organizer in the immigrant rights’ movement, which is a very important priority for many of our members who also work within the movement. She has consistently stood by immigrant workers, union and not, who have been targeted. She understands that the labor movement and fight for immigrants are deeply intertwined and will bring this perspective to the Senate.
153 members are excited about candidates who bring a fresh perspective to what the labor movement can achieve together and Aber is one of these candidates. We look forward to collaborating with her on a plethora of issues affecting working people in unions such as the impact of AI on the workplace, childcare for all, and the affordability crisis. Local 153 members living and working in NYC support candidates who want to lessen the burden for working people and are committed to electing them.
Early voting begins on October 24th and runs through November 1st with Election Day on November 3rd. It is priority that union members turn out in full force supporting pro-union, pro-worker candidates like Aber! Check your Early Voting site, here.
