OPEIU Local 153 is proud to endorse Darializa Avila Chevalier for U.S. House of Representatives for New York’s 13th District. She is a champion for working class people and unions. A union member with the United Auto Workers while at the Neighborhood Defender Service, she knows the transformative power that unions can deliver to working class people at the bargaining table and beyond. We are proud to support more union members going to Congress.

We are proud to stand with Darializa as she fights for workers’ rights protections, increasing union density, and raising the minimum wage. Local 153 supports passing the PRO Act and supports champions like Darializa, who are committed to signing onto it the first day in office. As a Local, we are committed to organizing and building union density in our country. We need to stop the retaliation from the Trump administration and halt institutions from being emboldened to take away workers’ rights.

Moreover, in a moment when our immigrant workers are under attack, Darializa shows up for them and will be a champion in Congress for their dignity and rights. We represent workers who fight for justice in the immigrant rights’ space every day and it is very important to us that our elected officials understand the intersection of workers’ rights and immigrant rights. Darializa does.
